CB500K0 Oil Guide B
« on: March 27, 2020, 11:00:02 AM »
Decided to use the lockdown period to attempt to put together a couple of my engines starting with the CB500K0.

Problem is there are bound to be niggly little bits I need for any of my engines.

First up is 'Oil Guide B'. My CB500K0 frame no. is 1000896 and this changed at 1000899 from 11203-323-000 to the -010 part.
Mine seems to be torn at either end  (see pic) although on the rest of it it still seems still very flexible. I can't find much on any forums about this guide. I can't find the -010 part (only a used one in the States) but I can find the early part NOS but again in the States and not sure how long this would take to get here plus it's going to be around 50 quid landed if Parcelforce get their hands on it.

Does anyone have experience of this part or have one to sell? Will the later -010 part fit my engine .. not that I can find one NOS?

Good news is that the rest of the bottom end including the shifter forks are fine. The countershaft weird needle roller bearing was starting to break up and had started to mark the countershaft but I managed to get a NOS bearing and a replacement shaft (anyone who doesn't know .. this and the shift mechanism was the Achilles heel of the early CB500K0 ...early square crankcase engines and resulted in a Class Action court case in the USA against Honda in 1971).

I'll have a look in my big box of bits Ash.

Did the countershaft come with the bearing? I have a NOS one and the bearing is so full of protective grease it's stiff to turn, need to wash it in petrol before I use it just to dissolve the grease. I also have the needle bearing NOS, in fact except for 2 gears I have the entire gearbox NOS. And that includes the selectors.

Cheers guys .. The countershaft is used but in good order .. it seems to be the needle roller bearing thats prone to failing (you know the one with the dualled rollers we have discussed on here before i.e the 323 part not the 286 part on the other shaft ... I  did get NOS needle rollers for both shafts thoug ...  just to be on the safe side).

My lock up is too far to walk to for exercise but boy has infusion for Crohns next week and hospital is just round corner so can get away with it.
If Ken has one it would be far easier, i know i have at least 1 set of bare cases i could remove from but they are all later cases.

No worries Bryan PLEASE don't try to find one ... one is bound to turn up or I will just bite the bullet and order the one in the States .. maybe I can get them to mark the value for customs down to £15 (I just did that with a set of Bomber piston rings and the USA seller was happy to do it).

Interesting that they superseded the part at less that 1000 bikes into the production run.
