Main bearings
« on: March 30, 2020, 06:19:52 PM »
Hi guys
I've taken on a half finished project and I have just plastigauged the new main bearings that came with the bike , I think from the spread of the plastigauge on the crank journals shows that there is hardly any clearance at all.
Am I correct in thinking that a clearance between 15 and 20 thou would be good.
I can't attach a picture as the file is to big
This is my first engine build and any advice is very welcome

Never seen a main bearing ever with 15 to 20 thou. Are you sure you have your figures right.

This is a complicated issue for people not used to Honda's but once you get your head round it not so much. The crankcases have a series of letters stamped on them, this is the size of the case journals. The crank has markings on the webs that's the size of the crank pins. When you have both, refer to the table in the Honda manual and that gives you which colour code of shell to use and the clearances.
