Engine Cases

Hi all,

seeing as we are 'staying in' instead of being out but not out out I thought I will wire brush and wet and dry the engine case for painting. is this an accepted method?

I wouldn't smooth the cases out, they need to have a bit of roughness for the paint to stick to. I would just clean them off with whatever liquid you choose and leave it at that.

Any VHT paint can be used for the casings?

So, started to do my engine cases whilst locked in.

baked at 100 degrees and let to cool twice

(Yes, I have my own house so I can cook what I want in the oven)

I did it once after repainting a Caliper.
I got so much earache from MBH after doing this that I wouldn’t dare try it again. 😬
Still looking for a very cheap plug in oven I can put in the garage before I tackle engine cases.

Have a chat with Currys/ Howdens/Wren delivery drivers and scrounge a single oven.  Single ovens have larger cavities than double ovens.  Or have a look down the tip.  Or put a wanted ad on Freecycle.

I'm on furlough at the moment. My wife is at work. I have baked some lovely engine casings this week. The oven has just pinged to let me know the top crankcase is ready.    Just open all the windows and any smell is gone by the time she gets home.
