I have a friend who voluntarily surrendered his licence on doctor's advice. It was re - instated entirely without fuss and, (with supporting medical evidence) rather earlier than he had originally expected.

I hope that you are able to resume riding soon!

Both my mates voluntarily  gave up their licenses because they had been told  it would be harder to get them  back  if they were revoked  by the DVLA.

Thanks, very encouraging. The main issue is that because I had several absence seizures in hospital the minimum period of not driving is one year from the last seizure which was on 2nd July.  The reason I voluntarily surrendered it was that from reading the guidance it  made it clear that if the DVLA revoked it then it would be much harder to get it back.

I need to get the DV1 pack as soon as possible (but online requests for the pack have been suspended), my doctor will provide the medical evidence, so I will try and phone the DVLA this week to request a DV1 pack and get their advice on the best way forward during the lockdown.

Great looking bikes Andrew. I'm glad I had my sunglasses on when I opened the image 😎.
Good luck getting your licence back.

Thanks Dave, they do look a bit blingy don't they...... 8)

Thanks Julie,

Nothing wrong with blingy frilly bits, it was how they were made after all - both my bikes are original, apart from the paintsets (and exhausts on the Z9000)

Z question.

Do Z forums have similar discussions about show bikes, Pre-production models, K0 (or A0), US vs UK specs etc?

Yes Steve,

I'm a member of the Z1 OC and similar discussions are had on the forum about the preproduction and early (72/73) Z1's and debate often raises its head about US vs UK spec bikes, originality and concours bikes, the latter being very few but members do look after their bikes to a high standard but rarely show them. Many of Z1 OC members are pretty hard core about riding to rallies (home and abroad) and camping out etc and there's a section of the membership that are well into modifying their Zeds.

Like this forum there is some excellent contributions on the technical issues and troubleshooting. The club used to produce a great quarterly magazine but that has now become an annual Yearbook which is high quality in production and content. Occasionally personal fall outs happen and left to run until the Mods feel they need to step in - new members are welcomed and flaming is not tolerated. The club always has a well turned out stand at Stafford in October and I've shown my Z900 once in 2017 as below, it's a very tidy bike but not really a show bike (and never will be) but it was owned for 28 years by a founder member of the club (Phil Churchett) who sadly passed away from MND in 2010 and has a special place in the club.

Interestingly and unlike this forum, the Z1 OC forum is generally less tolerant of other makes of bikes, particularly Hondas and Harleys. Silly I know, but if someone types in Honda it appears in a post as Hodna.

In all it's a great club with a strong membership, regular local group rideouts/rallies and good exposure on Facebook.

Sorry for the photo overload: ::)

I could do that. But I think it’s a bit petty

Phil,

If you let me have the Reg No and maybe a photo of the bike I will put on the Z1 OC forum, I know the club has a registry of Zeds owned by members.

Cheers, Andrew

Consider it done Phil, I'll let you know if I get any feedback - 'Snap' with the 70's pornstar tache and hair, but they do go with the platforms!   ;D

I refitted my rechromed frilly bits too.  As well as the re zincked swing arm bolt and disc bolts/nuts.  Gave it an hour's cleaning up and went out on an essential journey for an hour.
I then spent a couple of hours cleaning up the shed.   I can now see the bench and most of the floor.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?
