CB400F RHS fork leg bottom - brake mounts
« on: May 06, 2020, 09:36:17 PM »
On my CB400, the right hand side (near side in UK) bottom fork leg, has the brake mounts - see pic.

I know some CB500F's had this as an option to then upgrade to dual front discs, but is this something that was standard on some 400 bikes?  My suspicion is that the bike has had a trip down the road at some point and was replaced with a 500 fork leg, but I'm intrigued...

From memory of my 400N  calipers mount behind forks on 2 larger lugs as brake design totally different to 400/4. I think they actually stopped you too! :P
One day I'll have the time to restore it, not just talk and dream....

Definitely not 250/400N, different mounts altogether. See post on 500 brake orientation

Not a 500 as they didn't get the mount. The 550 did. However the 500/550 had a 19" front wheel and the 400 had an 18" wheel so the 500/550 fork legs would be longer. The stanchions IIRC were also thicker than the 400s so they wouldn't fit, to me the fork brace looks to have been extended so maybe they fitted the entire front end off a 550F.

Can't see the tyre size on the pic, is it 18 or 19?
Don't play stupid with me, I'm better at it
