Just to get it running again...
« on: June 01, 2020, 02:15:30 PM »
Will 750K1 tank fit on just until I can find the right one?

The fuel tap is on the wrong sid but it seems to be the same type of tap fitting.

I have a 750 K7 tank on my 550, fits where it touches, I think it may be a bit long but I have a CD175 seat on as well, its my sidecar tug so not bothered on looks.

Now if you just want it to run i would use an externat header tank BUT if you want to ride it i would get the proper tank due to solid fitment and pipe run

Sorry, yes, I need to ride it.  It's annoying, everything else is working but tanks are now getting very hard to find.  Tried to MIG weld but it is very thin and now it has an even bigger hole than before.  The problem is that it rusted right behind the badge holding strip so I'm thinking of cutting out a big section and making a patch and welding it on, but it's a fiddly job and I just want to get it on the road again before the winter comes.

Shocked at how hard and expensive it has suddenly become to get decent parts.

My 500 has a 750K2 tank on it and it’s fine to ride with, I wouldn’t have known it was the wrong tank until this forum pointed it out!

thanks, that's really kind.  I think the phone call suggestion is a good one, otherwise it will be winter before I know it.

Looking at the original tank I think I will cut out the entire 'badge' section and weld in a new piece, I think it will be the only way.

also, thinking about different tanks, some have a single outlet petrol tap rather than double outlet.  In those cases will I just join the pipes together with a T piece or something?

The K1 750 seems to have the same tap as the 500K

If the single tap has a the boss cast on next to the outlet, it is possible to add a second outlet on the tap, I did it when I required two outlets for non-standard carbs.
nice bike,nothing in the bank
