Rear shocks
« on: June 06, 2020, 01:11:09 PM »
As its blowing a gale and chucking it down here,  :'(  I've retreated into the garage for the day and swapped over the black aftermarket rear shocks which the bike had on when I bought it, for these Chrome replicas I bought about a year ago,  but never got around to fitting.   They look pretty good though I do say so myself.

They look ok but AFAIK the 550F2 didn't have shrouds on the shocks, just plain chrome springs.
You are correct Ken. But the TEC shrouded ones fit and do the job a treat.

What are they like for handling Julie?

One part I do need is a decent set of rear shocks, I have some Marzocchi Strada piggybacks in bits but they need seals and no one has them anymore.

I might have to buy a pair of these, I'd prefer something like Koni but again finding a set in great nick can be hard.
For a standard shock they make the bikes handle very, very well Ken. Very comfortable without any wallowing. We have them on most, if not all of our SOHC/4's thinking about it, so and couldn't ask for better especially for the price. Trig says they are better than the originals.

They look similar Ken but we only ever buy the shocks from TEC in UK.

TEC shocks are 320mm between centres, can't remember what they were as standard, any idea?

I can measure my old shocks but they are stuck in the garage about 1 mile away.
No idea Ken but I'm sure Graham has got some here he can measure.

Hi oddjob,

I recently bought some second hand Marzocchi shock very cheap and took the chance that I would be able to strip and recondition them, after lots of searching I found a dealer in Italy that has lots of nos Marzocchi stock, his shop is called Tecnomotors, not sure of website address but I can find it,

Picture of rebuilt shock with new seal kit fitted, I also got some new Marzocchi decals from Ebay

Thats true Oddjob, but I personally like the look of the half shrouds and whilst I like to keep my bike fairly original, its never going to be a concours example.
