Hi,
Are the 550 and 400 petrol tanks interchangeable?

Cheers
Andy

Thanks Bryan
I spotted a tank for sale but the advert says 400 / 550 and i wasn't sure if they were compatible etc.
Is there an obvious way to see which one is which from photos or 'distinguishing marks' etc?
Cheers,
Andy

Thanks Oddjob,
This is the tank - looks like a 400 fuel cap.

Cheers,
Andy

Thanks again for quick response on the tank - really appreciated.
I'd spotted the ad on Gumtree and the guy had someone interested but hadn't come back so there was a bit of pressure to decide quickly.
All worked out well and collected them yesterday afternoon.
Turns out there are two tanks, both the same and appear original paint in sound condition with a few dinks and marks but both being amazingly clean inside.
The tank I've got is quite rusty inside, the cap is poor and the paint awful so I'm hoping to use one of these as an easy option.
Only shame is that neither one has a fuel tap. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

They cost £250 - not sure if that’s good or not but tanks I’d seen on eBay generally looked in awful condition and quite pricey so hopefully a reasonable deal.

Thanks Oddjob
Price was for both tanks and they are in surprisingly good condition - the photo makes it look like the 'back' tank is marked but that's just reflection.
They both have a couple of small dents and a few marks in the paint but do look original so I guess that's to be expected.
The guy wasn't sure if they'd ever been fitted to bikes as the insides are so clean - one is absolutely perfect inside, the other only very minor staining visible at the very bottom but not any rust so maybe he was right and minor damage is just from storage and handling.
The 'original' tank on my bike is shown below - strange damage to paintwork and rusty inside but pretty free of dents.
I hoped the new tank would save the bother of de-rusting and painting etc. and as the bike is not completely original and in 'aged' condition I think this will actually fit in better than a perfect painted tank.
Cheers,
Andy [ Guests cannot view attachments ]
