Choke lever moving on its own
« on: June 08, 2020, 04:53:24 PM »
My 1974 K0 550 has just started playing up today, the choke lever is managing to turn on its own.

It keeps rotating back and the choke ends up back on. The choke lever still makes the little click when’s it’s rotated back to its off position.

Is there a way of tightening it back up?

Standard 022 carbs.

Are you sure that it’s not catching on your boots?

Mine does.

You sir are a genius. Today is the first time I’ve taken my bike out with my new bike boots on. Usually I wear my shorter boots.

I feel a right idiot now  :P

I guess motorcycle boots in the 70s were much “slimmer”. Actually, I wore trainers in the dry and Derriboots in the wet.

No chance of them snagging on the choke lever.

Nope, not now but that choke knob was handy to hang things off of when I did have one back in the day.

Me 7. I have fitted a small spring which seems to be working to stop this niggle.

I have often wondered about fitting an elastic loop or something.

What's this spring look like?

I had it with boots that let trousers/leathers ride up. I’m now using stretch Denim jeans with Kevlar and padding, along with sneaker style bike shoe/boots. Shoes take a little wearing in but jeans v comfy, and no snagging on the choke. My Ashman boots and Lewis racing boots from back in the day won’t even zip up over bare legs, never mind leathers! Must have shrunk.

I have a cable tie around my choke lever to stop this boot problem, it goes under the float bowl drain screw and around, works a treat. Nothing more embarrassing than the engine going flat just when you need it.
