CB750K K1 Petcock Filter removal

I’m servicing my neighbours K1; the first I’ve seen in the flesh in green, and rather beautiful. It is however a bit tired, with plenty to go at...
Anyways, the petcock filter seems to be welded in place; any tips for getting it out undamaged as it needs a clean? (alas there are no tabs to grab... which I think my K2  has)
While I’m here, a gorilla last put in the spark plugs; and given it’s not my bike I baulked at too much torque on the spanner. I plan to ride it today and hope heat helps, but other than this any tips for removing overly tight ‘plugs.

Ah but you have to get the filter screen out to get at the screws holding the tap to the tank.
Remember the two thick fibre washers under the screw heads, unfirtunately generic wont work but 6mm "dowty" seals do 90% of the time

Simon - probably a stupid question, but the o-ring that seals the bowl to the fuel tap has been removed correct?

I bought a petcock for my 500/4 from China on eBay for £8.99. It looks identical to original and I guess could be where originals came from. It’s complete with screws and washers.

Hi Oddjob... yea, I did indeed remove the tap / 2 weeny SS screws (ie not whole petcock as I think Bryan was alluding to) and poked a small Allen key in the various feed holes hoping to surprise the filter from above. No such luck... the bores were not playing ball in this respect.

James... how did ya know! You’re quite right... I’m bloody amazed the bowl sealed, and guess the poor old filter screen became a plumbers olive.... in which case it’s there for life 🙁.

I’ve shoved it all back for now... and figure my best bet is a cheap pattern tap (as Jeremy suggests) which would include a filter, the washer... and new bowl (with unchewed 14mm hex on the bottom).
Q Jeremy - does your pattern bowl / filter screen fit the OEM petcock - prefer not to remove the whole shebang as it’ll mean tank off and drained... again.

I can’t say for sure but it’s mostly identical and from memory the bowl looks right.
The new unit has an all nylon/plastic filter screen. I had kept an old screen (see pic) and it fits the new unit well but a slight gap around the central hole and it fitted tighter if I just pushed the centre in a bit. I guess it’s £8.99 vs a new bowl and screen from DSS or somewhere.
