My old XJ900
« on: January 12, 2022, 09:20:46 AM »
Whilst searching some old pics I found this one of my XJ900 longest I have ever owned one bike for 1995 to 2009.
I absolutely loved it until the day finally came when I could not pull it onto the centre stand - I fell off it once when it stalled on my house front - gee it was heavy to pick up off the ground just broke the bottom engine cowl.

We had loads of those on fleet for the customers to use when I worked as a workshop manager at Motorcycle City backin the 90's.

Friday night was a group thrash to the pub with all the mechanics riding these at mach2 up the A331 to Farnham..........what a hoot, we had such a laugh working there it was more like a youth club than a bike shop ;D ;D
Mornings are the invention of the devil!

1977 CB550F (current money pit!!)
2002 VFR800 VTEC (The Beloved)
1977 CB400F (the last money pit!)
1998 Ducati 748\853 conversion(sold :()
1980 ish CB750KZ in a billion bits (need to get rid, anybody want one?))

I was torn between a used  XJ & a Ducati 600 but realised my back & wrists would hate the Ducati - oddly enough the price of the Ducati was quite close at the time.

I was also scared of wheelies so the shaft drive was a clincher my previous bike was a Suzuki GS 750GS - I virtually gave up using 1st gear out of fear on that one.

That's a nice looking bike. When I search for sub-£1000 bikes now in eBay and AutoTrader these seem to pop up quite a lot, so they must keep going. A friend of mine had the 550 when I had my first CB550 - red and black and it lways looked nice.

Should have had the 900 Duke. Mine was really light on the wrists...... or was that because for the front wheel launching skywards at the slightest provocation ;D
One day I'll have the time to restore it, not just talk and dream....
