Tappet covers
« on: August 01, 2020, 02:50:27 PM »
A seemingly magic Honda size of 16mm (which is not in my socket set) can you buy a hexagonal 16mm spanner?  Also anyone know why they are made of cheese?

What bike? Usually it's 17mm. 16mm is found nowhere.

I once got a Hazet sparkplug socket for free when I bought a set of Champion plugs, also 16mm (5/8").
But I think a normal hexagonal 16mm socket would be normally available?
Oh, and I've never known those caps other than 17mm.

From my recollection 17mm on mine, been a while though. I have plenty of 16mm spanners and sockets and use them a fair bit, probably on imperial stuff. My socket set has a 6 point socket, I have at least 3 16mm spanners kicking around. Ditto 18mm which are all over my sidecar fittings.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

Should be 17mm and a 16mm hex socket is easy to get from snap on, just not easy to pay for

You could try this:

SnapOn tools are really good and I've had mine for over 40 years, just don't buy more of them than you can use!

I would guess that they are aftermarket tappet covers, hence the non standard 16mm size and cheese metal.

Anywhere that sells single sockets and spanners should have 16mm available.

Haven't 'broken' one either but doesn't change the fact that they are soft as s###. Also according to DSS they are a high turnover part. Just crap design

Probably done up by the same twats who tighten spark plugs like they're anchoring a aircraft carrier. >:(
