Givi topbox.
« on: September 18, 2020, 09:33:52 PM »
Someone on my local Freecycle was giving away a 46 litre monokey Givi topbox with the rack.  The rack didn't fit thd GPZ so I managed to find one for £30.  Once that was fitted,  I sold the Yamaha XJ6/N rack for £40 to a guy in my street.
The only issue with the topbox is it doesn't lock properly.  Has anyone else had a problem with the latches?
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

Givi make awesome boxes.

I’ve had an E36 (fits one helmet but otherwise a smaller box) for years. Totally waterproof.

Maybe you have discovered why it was free?

You can get replacement locks.

If you mean it won’t latch to the plate (rather than won’t lock), no I’ve had this box on my last eight (!) bikes and it has never failed.

It latches onto the plate ok, the lid is a bit iffy.  I've read some stuff on the interweb: it may just be finger trouble.

I got it to work.  Key in, horizontally,  press the plate in and up,  keep it pressed while turning the key. A bit of a faff but I'm happy with £350 of rack and box for - £10.  That's more than I paid for the bike.

Secure too.

Depending upon how the rack is bolted to the bike of course

Over the many Givi boxes that I and friends have bought, only one (belonging to a friend and fitted to a 1970 CB750) gave problems, and quite serious problems at that.

On occasion, it seems particularly when it was filled with clothing and a helmet, he simply could not open it to retrieve his gear and ride home!

It was repaired by Givi under warranty, however it never was totally reliable and in the end he replaced it with another.
