no v5 when purchasing a bike

hi all

went to look at a bike at week end, bike is ok but something bothering me, the owner has no v5 and was very " patchy and lost for words "

anyone enlighten me here on what to do ... or what to watch out for... stolen comes to mind but maybe thats me being over cautios

Take reg no, frame no and engine number to local plod office and say you have been offered the bike and want to know if its stolen. If OK knock

These things (documents) can get lost, may be  simple as that.
