For those that haven’t seen it, there are some wonderful YouTube videos like “Honda RC166 disassembly work”  ! (and note the choice of tyres!) 😉

One of the first motorbike race meetings I visited was in the I.O.M. where I witnessed the RC166's and RC174's together with the 5 cyl. RC149. the noise together with the smell of Castrol R is something you never forget,

I’ve had that in my bookmarks forever. The strangest TV show ever, I love the oos and aahs as the engine comes apart. The notes are interesting regarding the precision involved.

You wonder if there’s another episode where they put it back together again, without a workshop manual or advice from the internet. I’ve heard that bike ‘in the flesh’ at the TT, it almost makes your ears bleed.

Hi K2-K6 yes that’s the one. I wondered if they were doing a lecture for engineering students in the background !

There's another video by the same guys, where they refurbish a RC143 125cc dohc twin, which revved to 14,000 rpm.

There is also one where they fire up my favourite F1 car, a Honda 3 litre V12. 48 valves, imagine having to set those up!

Blood and sand, that's *$%^ loud! Some things in my life were almost worth the historic hearing damage, like seeing Led Zeppelin and standing behind Read and Bonera's MV 500s as they were warmed up before Mallory Park's Race of the Year.

I once had to take a works RC45 Superbike, which we had just put back together, down to a dyno in the paddock at Donington Park, and stand with it while it was run up to full bannanas to check all was well. That was quite something, though not ear splitting like the one in the video.
