I think you might need to key the metal with a light rub of 1200 or 1500 grit paper prior to painting.  If those marks are caused by salt staining the paint may flake after a while as the salt eats into the alloy and stays there. I get parts like this vapour blasted prior to painting (bead blasting though on brake calipers). I've never heard of Emico filters, for the sake of £5 I'd go for a genuine filter over a pattern part, too many horror stories of pattern filters breaking up in use and blocking the oilways  :'(.

Back in the 70's used rather a lot of Emgo filters and never had a problem, nowadays people have said that there electric parts are bad but if you pay half the price and they last half the time(which is my experience) can you really say they are terrible

I never use Nitromors these days .the formulation & affectiveness is cr*p compared with how it used to be .. when it was superb.

This is the closest I have found to the old Nitromors.... contains Methylene Chloride & Formic Acid (as in ant stings :) ) So you have to be careful with it. Typically £25 for  5 litres at autojumbles, including Newark were I got some last month (for £22)

If you get these blemishes out and you can get up a good shine why paint your casings , fork lowers or rear brake cover? If I'm to be asked they look way better polished , and it isn't that hard keeping them that way!

Very nice bike too much effort for me - I'll stick to paint on the engine.

It sounds like you aspire to be truly inseparable from your bike, I'd rather stick to the saddle myself though!!!   :o
