Top yoke weld

As can be seen in the pic below the top yoke has snapped some time in the past.  Only found out when taking the front off to check the head bearings. 

So the question is....... can these be welded.  And if so who is a good place to send it to

I suppose anything can be welded....the question is...whether it's safe afterwards.

I would try and find a replacement before welding a busted yoke. Thats a pretty high stress location, and not something I would feel comfortable about failing under load.

Can be done but, there is a big risk that it will distort from the heat

Yes if it’s a poor casting maybe it could break elsewhere.

I've welded them, Make a piece of bar the same diameter as the forks, cut it away where your weld will be and clamp it together with a washer in the gap, a washer the correct thickness that holds the broken edges as near as you can get them, Deep weld preps are needed, V it out lots for massive depth penetration.

As far as risk of rebreaking, well yes there is always that risk, but it broke in the first place so that risk was always there. And if it does break, the result will not be catastrophic as the pinch bolt will still hold everything together. (spoken like a true Risk Assessor)

If not available as a reproduction or daft price I would try to find a used one. I would not be keen on repairing until all other avenue's are exhausted.

Always better than repaired, since fitting mine I've found an unbroken original and will swap it over some time.

Thanks for the input.  So the smart money is on a replacement.  I had not heard of a fork top being welded so I thought I would ask. 
They seem in short supply.  A new one from cms is approx £500.  There are a couple for grabs in the usa.  You would have thought with all the 250/360 G5's sold in this country there would be 1 or 2 for sale in the uk. 
The bike (CB360 1974) wont be out and about till may/june time so a replacement should be found before then.

Didn't realize it was for a UK  G5 ...pretty sure I have one of those somewhere. However I think it is different to yours. Coluld it be that the 74 USA model has a K4 style yoke.

Yes its a 1974 Usa import cb360.  The part no for the top yoke for the usa 1974 360 is 53230-369-305.
I checked the part no for the UK 360G5 its 53231-369-000.  Different.....
BUT looking at the usa 360G model the number is also 53231-369-000 BUT is superseded by 53230-369-305.
And fits the later cb350.
So I thought a UK cb360G5 would fit.  Also a UK cb250G5 should work too.

I just thought there would be a choice of top yokes here in the UK for a 250/360G5 considering the number of these bike sold here.

Well... in the end I found a NOS top yoke with the right part number in the Netherlands.  For less than the price of a used on from the usa.

Its surprising what turns up sometimes.  So, if its not on fleabay it might be sitting on a website somewhere else.
