A new Honda Clutch Cable for a cb550k3
« on: November 19, 2020, 07:39:56 PM »
I decided to replace the original clutch cable on my cb550k3.  It may not be the absolute original.... I forget if I replaced it in the past.

However the new one is a nice, smooth operating one.  All nice and new.

My question is..... should I leave it as is or drop some oil down inside the cable.  I have heard that oiling the new cables is not required.

Being old fashioned I still think some oil is best

Thanks

If it is really original, just drop it in!

NO NO NO NO NO AND NO.

Original cables have a coating on the inner and inside the outer which will swell up with oil and make your nice new slidy cable useless.
Aftermarket where its bare bowden cable and bare spiral outer fine

Its NO then.   It looks fit for purpose.  Thats why I bought a genuine Honda one.

Now to fit it and see how much the old one has stretched.

Many thanks

I doubt its stretched, but over the years the lining wears and the cable gets tight
