HELP ... NOT ENOUGH HOLES IN MY CARB BACK PLATE 😢😢😢
« on: November 20, 2020, 04:10:16 PM »
I opened my mouth too wide and said I would have a go at finishing the assembly on my 750/4 K2 carbs.

My K2 is a late 1973 manufactured UK model. My tank has 2 outlets from the fuel tap and the tap is on the right side of the tank unlike the earlier K2's which are on the left.
I need to get the fuel tank to carb fuel delivery pipes through the back plate, easily done on one side of the plate but at the other end of the plate, there isn't a hole for the pipe to come through and whichever way I try to route the pipe, it fouls on either the choke linkage if I route to the front and if I route to the back, the pipe will get squashed by the back plate.
I wasn't paying attention when Trig stripped my bike down almost 5 years ago, so I don't know what the set up was with the pipes. I'm 99.99999% certain this is the back plate that was fitted to the bike when I got it as everything had been stored in a box and other than sending loads of bits for BZP / yellow passivate, the box had not been disturbed until recently. Have I somehow got the incorrect back plate now, or am I missing something simple with the routing of the pipe 🤔🤔🤔 I can't ask Trig any more questions about this as he says it's my own fault for not taking good notice in the 1st place 🙄🙄🙄
Any suggestions great fully received 😊😊😊

My back plate with only one pipe hole

Another back plate I have found showing 2 holes

Perhaps they are routed like the K1?  the second (Left hand side) fuel pipe comes around the back and through the upper second hole on the right hand side?

Couple of photos showing the left hand pipe routed around the back , and a front view of the pipes coming through the back plate.

There is a second hole in your plate - just above and to the right of the hole you have already fed a pipe through, when viewed from the front. The pipe from between the number 1 and 2 carbs goes along the back of carb numbers 2 and 3 and then in between numbers 3 and 4 and through the second hole. (I have just this week rebuilt the carbs for my late 1971 K2)
I think you meant later K2's when you suggested some had a right side petrol tap. Those later bikes had the extra hole at the left side of the mounting plate (and so three holes in fact).

Routing therefore as per the earlier K1 as already commented.

I think you will find that you use both the top and bottoms holes on the RHS, that is how my pipes are routed on my 73 UK K2.

Hi Chris. Thanks for your reply. Yes, I typed it incorrectly, I meant to just say later tanks had the fuel tap on the left side.
Thanks for the details, I can now see where I have gone wrong with the pipes, I will start again 🙄🙄🙄

Not sure where I got these pics from, but they worked on my '74 UK K2. Same as yours Julie, 2 outlets on right side.

Thanks for that. I got it sorted as soon as it was pointed out that the pipes both come out the same end of the back plate, it made total sense 🙄🙄🙄🙄 I've little to no experience at all with 750/4 carbs, 400/500/550 carbs are a doddle compared to my 750 K2 ones.
