The best silver aluminium paint is Simoniz VHT, part number SIMVHT31D. If you want any photos of Honda SOHC/4 engines done with this, just shout.

POR15 engine enamel is also good. It has a very high pigment content and is petrol and acid resistant but it needs to be thinned with white spirit and sprayed. It leave brush marks if you brush it on.

Here are some photos I've just taken. I've included a black / silver engine which you mentioned you would be doing. I didn't want to take photo of my 400/4 engine as the bike is filthy dirty but the engine paint is as good today as when we painted it over 4k miles ago.
Edit... Should have mentioned that all these engines were painted when the engines were fully stripped, cleaned and degreased prior to overhaul. The finish is all down to the prep. The paint needs to air cure and the oven cure so cannot be painted with the engine complete.

Have I read that the liners can come loose when subjected to the oven treatment or is my brain just overloaded?

Your brain is indeed correct but if you put the barrels on blocks  or a barrel stand, the liners don't fall out.

No lacquer needed and yes, it does say satin on the tin but it's actually a semi satin / semi gloss finish. Simoniz do a gloss finish as well I believe and that is a very, very glossy finish.

Great stuff, thanks Julie that's really helpful and saves me chasing my tail asking a million suppliers a million questions.

The builds coming on, frame n swinger done and waiting powder coat, front wheel done, gotta try building the rear next week when it comes) and never done iot before so that's something to have a ponder on. :o

Brakes cleaned and re done, and thankfully all the moving parts on the systems on the bike that didn't turn or work ,now do so beautifully. That last three weeks in the shed haven't been totally wasted. Ive even managed to map out the holes and drill the fornt disc after getting it skimmed down to remove the pitting.

After getting the bike Ive cleaned the carbs, new points, plugs caps, valves done and everything to get it started for the first time in yars, it was parked up in 1981!

started on the second dab, albeit a bit lumpy but got her unbalanced but ticking over so the full build started now I know she's alive. Breaking the engine next to get that cleaned and refinished so really looking forward to getting on with the build.

Back to cleaning, polishing and fiddling then!

Oh and Ive got a chap building me a new collector to allow for a twin exit, reverse cone pipe, set up, happy days!

This forum is fantastic and been such a help reading through all the bits and pieces on here, some of which wouldn't have occurred to me, to the extent that I now have a full bright zinc plating set up bubbling away in the shed, re coating all my nuts and bolts bringing them up to new finish......brilliant!

Just a quick question please. Which in popular opinion is the closest match to original....SIMVHT31C or 31D?
