Thanks Mike - this one came off the K6 project when it wasn't charging - changing for a spare cured the problem but if this one is checking out ok, it was maybe just a dirty connection that was cured when the alternative rectifierwas plugged in.
Anyway, its a result that this ones working (still don't know were I have put the original 500k2 rectifier though - too many spares for too many bikes!)
Thanks again

Don't rely on testing all six diodes at once (positive to negative).
The worst case scenario is four of the diodes are duff and you're only reading through a pair of diodes connected to one phase.  In that case, you'll get charging but not a lot.
Certainly not enough to have any lights on.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

Haven't tested pos to neg Mike - tested as per your recommended way but
'I get a reading (diode range) when putting red meter lead on neg on rectifier AND with black lead on rectifier negative
I get nothing when putting black meter lead on postive or the negative rectifier lead?'
Am I missing something in my ignorance?

Anymore guidance on full testing relative to my results in previous post then Mike?

Measure each diode individually.   You don't even need a meter, a battery and bulb will do.  Remember that diodes only conduct in one direction so check each diode both ways.  That's 12 checks.
Just ask if you need more advice.

Thinks..   maybe I need to make a video.

Thanks Mike - I have checked the diodes based on the your previous advise and got the results posted earlier. Sorry for my ignoranace but what wires do I need to test as per your last post? Sorry to be a pain!

You've got 5 wires.  3 yellows, a red and a black (or green)
The yellows come from the alternator and the red, black go to the battery via the voltage regulator.

To check each diode in turn, using a multimeter on the ohms range, or the diode range.   Or you can use a battery and bulb set up.

The diodes only conduct in one direction,  which is what you're looking for.

Put a meter lead on the negative and check each yellow in turn.

Put the other meter lead on the negative and check each yellow

You've now  checked D1, D3 & D5.
You should have a reading one way but not the other way

Put a meter lead on the positive (red) and check each yellow.
Put the other meter lead on the positive and check each yellow again.

You've now checked D2, D4 & D6.

If it checks out, good.  Put it back on the bike.
