I thought long and hard when my concrete garage was put up about whether to insulate or not. In the end I decided that air circulation was more important, and cut vents into both gable ends. You can create a snug warm garage that is a total moisture magnet inside if it is poorly ventilated. A builder client of mine owns several properties, he says if he leaves one empty it is more important to leave a window open somewhere so there is air circulation. Nothing ever went damp or rusty by just being cold, moist air is needed too.

As well as a heater for cold days in the garage, I do have a dehumidifier - I have mostly used it when I've had no option but to put a bike or car away wet, it can fill up overnight with a surprising amount of water. One thing I have noticed is that if it is cold enough it does absolutely zilch - it can run all night and not produce a drop. I think it's because cold air can't hold much moisture the way that warm air does, but it's been a while since I did O Level Physics.

Just been into the garage to take a photo!

I've been thinking about insulating my garage door was thinking of using Cellotex/Kingspan and sticking it to inside with solvent free adhesive but that looks easier.

Top tip Dave. What Brand of toothbrush do you use to clean the garage then... ;D

;D I use the wife's Tim although she doesn't know that just as she is unaware I use the oven to cure painted parts, the dishwasher to clean wiring looms and possibly the bath as a giant parts washer just as Jack Duckworth did when he restored a BSA Bantam on Coronation Street all those years ago 😁

The description of the product I used on the door from Wicks is:
YBS Superquilt Multifoil 40mm Insulation Roll 1.2 X 10m Roll
Product code: 166805
I also used a brush type draft excluder on the top and bottom of the door, it was like a gale blowing through some days without it.

Thanks for the info. Dave. Ironically Aldi are selling something from Sunday that looks similar.  No spec on it but have emailed them for rating etc.

Defo need to do something as very cold out there!!
One day I'll have the time to restore it, not just talk and dream....

Going back to Dehumidifiers -

The condensate out of a dehumidifier is it close to distilled or deionised water quality?

The water from a dehumidifier  could be contaminated pretty much straight away from the inside of the dehumidifier.  Fine for in your iron.  :)
Commercially made deionised water is cheap and far better quality.
