64' Norton Atlas 750
« on: January 11, 2021, 09:01:39 PM »
My latest project is repairing the bad work of two hacks that worked on my friend's 64' Norton Atlas 750 after it was stolen and recovered. It used to be a really nice bike, now I am going to get it back on the road.

Had one of those in 1970,lovely bike handled superbly but holed a piston on the way back from Mallory park two up at 90mph! P/x it for a new Bonneville costing £450!

Damn good looking, I've had a couple of Nortons and Triton cafe racers. I had an Atlas race bike on the road, no lights or kickstart, which was a good anti drink drive measure. I had to stay sober enough to run and bump, a skill I got good at and stood me in good stead.

I carried a single bicycle clip so my flared jeans didn't get caught up in the open clutch / primary chain.

I'm starting to get the new wiring harness installed and I built a tray for the spark box. It used to just sit on the wires. We also got the carbs disassembled, run through the ultrasonic tank and mostly reassembled.

Nice bike, I'm looking forward to more photos of the project.
Norton was my first big bike back in the early seventies.

BTW
spiral wrap is good for protecting those plastic rocker oil feed pipes.

I found these pictures from the 2018 Classic TT today - I think two of these bikes are Norton Internationals, in the past I have seen a road registered Manx at the TT with bicycle lights fitted!

Today I repaired the stripped motor mount hole on the top of the cylinder head with a helicoil. I also started connecting the new wiring harness up to the coil and electronic ignition box. The new fuel line and stainless braided oil line arrived today and I ordered some 3/16" stainless braided line to replace the plastic rocker feed tubes. We are sending out the oil tank to get the upper mounting tab tig welded back on along with a brace I made for some additional strength.

Today I got some more connections done. At the back all that is left is hook up the stoplight switch and one more connection at the taillight. At the front I still need to do the headlight bucket and ignition switch.
