Hi from Lincolnshire/Notts, thanks for letting me join!
« on: January 19, 2021, 11:43:29 PM »
Hi all,

Looking forward to getting back on the road! I had mopeds when I was 16 till about 19 then switched to a car. I've always worked on my own motors and have recently restored and converted my little 98 Suzuki Carry (aka sooty van) into a little micro camper. I'm an electronic engineer by day and DIY'er at night.

I passed my bike test 5 years ago when I was 25, but only recently have been in a position to get myself a bike. It took me a long time to decide  what bike to get, but I got pretty set on a 75-77 Honda 400/4. I love the style, size, the sweet looking exhaust, the tank shape and the sound of them. I recently purchased one that's the perfect base for a project. Engine seems sweet as a nut, mainly just cosmetics.

I know the older guys will hate me for this (including my dad haha!), but I'm wanting to lightly cafe racer it. No chopping, just a different seat, mudguards and handlebars. The bike already has non stock mudguards and handlebars. I'll be stripping it all down, powder coating the frame, respraying the tank, nut and bolt restoration ect.

Looking forward to completing the project and hopefully get a few weeks riding at the end of the summer :-). I'm sure ill be asking lot of questions when building it back up!

Welcome, good choice for a first bike! Or a second or umpteenth, as in my case. ;)

Welcome Sam a great site here with loads of expertise - were not all purists here.

If you want to customize your bike that sound whatever floats your boat - I would keep the original parts safe for when you might want to part with her.

Look forward to some photos being posted.

Welcome to the 400/4 forum ;). If you want to cafe racer it remember to keep the paintwork yellow because as anyone will tell you here, the yellow ones were the fastest ::).

Welcome Sam, nice choice to work on, your bike so the way it goes is your choice, i always hated the look of the 400's preferring  the 350/4 which is my all time favourite bike though i don't have one anymore, good luck with the build and ask lots of questions when you need.
