CMSL - Import Duties/VAT
« on: January 26, 2021, 10:12:42 AM »
I contacted CMSL a few days ago to ask if they would charge EU VAT in light of being charged it when goods arrive in UK - for everyones interest, see reply below

Dear Phil,
Sorry for the delay in responding.
We have set up our account that you pay the VAT to us and we will declare it in the UK.
So you pay the VAT to us and you don't have to pay this to the customs/UPS. Additional charges are 2% import duties, as our good aren't from the EU and a fixed 11,50 GBP for custom fee.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Kind regards,
Gert

Very interesting Phil. I ordered a set of exhausts early January which were posted promptly, probably quicker than normal from CMSL. They got as far as export point in country and the courier ended up returning to sender. There would appear as if there is some problem regarding export. I contacted cmsl and they said they would repost. Two weeks later I am still waiting for confirmation of dispatch. I’m not sure who is at fault courier or cmsl.

That will be an issue with the courier and customs paperwork.

The courier should make sure the correct customs paperwork is supplied on collection, and not accept them otherwise. Once goods get into the network, it should be straightforward. Trouble is...couriers often use partners in other countries for end delivery if they do not operate directly across the borders. These relationships have all had to be reworked....and not all has gone well as it;s being done in the middle of a pandemic, with high absence levels.

It should settle down eventually...... but legally.....the retailer remains responsible for your goods until delivery. They are the ones who need to sort out the courier issues

Over on the Z1 owners forum I frequent, Z Fever in Germany have just stopped selling anything to the UK. Full stop, no exceptions no work arounds offered - that’s it.

I would start ranting about never seeing anything like this on the side of a bus, but I don’t want to get the thread locked for becoming political.  :(

Shipping to the UK

Dear Sir/Madam ,

as you might have noticed the shipping towards the UK is taking longer than expected. We are really sorry about this.

We received your package back at our warehouse and we will send the order to you as soon as possible.

Currently we are sending back some packages as test cases to see if they arrive on time. As it stands now the estimated time of arrival of these test cases are thursday 28th of january.

If these shipments arrive as expected we will ship your "returned package" to the UK. You should receive your order than by the 3rd of February onwards.

We really do understand that you still would like to have an exact estimated time of delivery. Therefore you can follow your order with the new Track& Trace ID provided by mail after we have shipped your order once again.

Feel free to contact us by phone but please don't place a support ticket as these will take longer to process.

Meanwhile some info for those of us residing in the EU.

Getting stuff from the UK is obviously no longer going to be as cheap, but at least DS has made it simpler and easier with his DDP system. (Delivered Duty Paid).

We don't have the "paperwork" trouble with the USA or Canada, and I recently purchased from Israel with no trouble, the EU is simply punishing the UK for daring to leave the club, why we bother negotiating with people that take away lorry drivers packed lunches I don't know.

Or it could be that its all new to the companies - where as the USA, etc have been dealing with it for years - it should settle down in my opinion

Yes there are signs its already settling down, its only been three weeks. Firms like CMS are testing the systems and changing as required. This is what happens when you only get 1 day to sort it out. Will be okay by summer.

I think my parts are part of the experiment. Ordered 07 Jan, initially they were held by UPS and then returned. CMS have since dispatched them with an estimated delivery date of 28th Jan. there were no extra charges, but they are going to N Ireland, which, if I understand the system is still in the customs union and free trade area.

If you leave the club, you can't expect to continue enjoying the benefits! I'm moving to France; not because of #@%$, but to avoid all the ferries from NI when I put my retirement plan into effect. ;D
