Morning, New member, I live in Bristol and a motorcycle addict!

Ridden for over 25 years and currently have a VFR800 VTEC which I've had from new that's got 80K on it, just sold my beloved Ducati 853 (748 with 916 top end) and have just got my hands on a one owner from new, 1977 CB400F with 9000 miles on the clock that was parked up in 1981 and left in a garage until I found it just before Christmas screaming to be loved and rebuilt.

I have never seen carbs like it!!!   full of black treacle and orange snot  in the bowls from the fuel and even the slides were welded fast to the bodies and needed soaking to get them out.
Im currently recommissioning the bike with a view to building it.

Many thanks for letting me join the forum, I shall be asking a few questions and hopefully getting some piccies up of the strip down and rebuild as I go along

Hiya, got your PM re. the weird headlight! Tried to reply in same vein, but have just changed IP, and upgraded(?????) to fibre.  I hope it's just 'bedding in' problems, but at the moment I think there is better quality fibre in a pack of Shredded Wheat!
  You asked a question about the bulb fitting, I am going to try and load 3 photos, may have to be in 3 separate hits. In the first pic. you will see two springs, do NOT remove either. Hold the bulb holder and lift upwards next to the long spring, there is a small locating lug opposite next to the small spring which you use as the pivot point/hinge. Lift bulb holder out and remove bulb in normal bayonet method.

The standard bulb fitment is classed as a Bosch BA 20D. If you type that in with LED on Fleabay, there are a few varieties appear. The one I've pictured (Hopefully) has the heatsink inside the reflector, where it would normally be quite warm with the original bulb, and you don't roast your ancient wiring in the shell. Haven't tried mine out at night yet, my mum says I have to be in before it gets dark! I just want to be seen by all the satnav luvvies.

thanks for the reply, Youre headlight is different to mine for some reason and after tracking it down with a pal at Honda it turns out that it came off a 1970's CB200..........Who knew? Apparently they were fitted on the first run of UK bikes as alternative through supply issues in the factory from the listed ones which are  the same diameter and never logged, I wonder who else has one of these?

Anyway, mine presumably has been modified back in the 80's to accept the bulb that I found in it when i dismantled it and as Im not familiar with these as never had one before Im struggling to identify things that aren't standard which is why this has thrown up such an issue.

I ordered one of those bulbs when I saw the original post and was a little deflated when I got it out of the box and realised its a completely different fitment.  I was on the understanding that it was an unmolested bike but I guess lads back in the late seventies were as bad for fiddling as we are today!

Anyway, my issue is that the headlight bowl/bucket, whatever has the original transfer on it from the shop that sold it which, as it happens, is the shop i bought my first bike from back in 1991 and want to keep it on there with some other time ravaged bits to keep it's history.
 If it were not for this I would simply get a new headlight with an uprated bulb if this wasn't the case. Whether I get a new glass and reflector or adapt the one I have (if possible) via a fitting ring or whatever, I don't know but I need to do something as a lighter would give off more illumination than the standard excuse for a bulb that was fitted by the factory:D

really appreciate the help and the reply but I think I need to keep looking dont I :(
