Don't miss pubs at all, not been in one since they banned smoking in 2007, plus I've never found one that sells my favourite brew, Weston's special reserve cider, that said, at 8.4% abv one bottle would put you over the limit!

That reminded me of going to a tiny little pub near Taunton once. The scrumpy was so strong they would only serve it in half pints. Bloody rocket fuel!

We're going to the Wife's Brother's wedding on the date of Step 4, and staying in a pub, a week later a mate and I are going to the Silverstone Classic, and staying in another pub all weekend.

I shall make sure I tell everyone that they're my best mate, as I give them a beery hug.

We had a Flamingo & Firkin in Derby many years ago in the old TA Fire Staion Building they sold a made on the premises beer called "Dog Bolter" they would only sell it in 1/4 pints! Can't remeber the SG but two glasses did my leg coordination no end of damage.

They had live entertainment include The Spoons etc they pushed the boat out at weekends with a sort of Chas & Dave theme - great nights out with a bunch of guys & gals from work.

In Manchestershire we have Robinson’s Old Tom, described by the makers as ‘dangerously drinkable’ this is (or was) available in quarter pints, at 8.5% strength!

As students a mate and I naively ordered pints of the stuff, we did get served by the landlord with a wink to his regulars, who found the ensuing drunken mayhem as very entertaining. I don’t remember much other than not being able to feel my tongue and teeth any more after a couple of pints.

Several pubs in Hereford sold "scrumpy" as it was known.

Back in the days before abv numbers. It was powerful.

It is not the crisp, clear sparkling liquid.

More the cloudy murky sort.often with dead bees and other odds and sods.

Roughly made by the barrel on the farm.

"Roughly made by the barrel on the farm."

In Somerset with someone that took us to a farm at which they had a few different vats of different apple type ciders, which they would blend as you liked to make cider of your preference.  Cloudy and quite rough, but great tasting. They also said that they'd throw in a ham during fermentation to replcate things that would originally have been in cider from drowned rodent population (seemed serious but could have been for amusement toward us softy visitors) it tasted really good in spite of this.

Person that took us there also "distilled" it via freezing and then as it thawed the alcoholic element drains out first to make farmer's apple brandy  ;D

In August 1979, the (now) wife and I went to Knebworth, miraculously getting there on a Triumph, to see the second of two huge outdoor concerts by Led Zeppelin.

On the camp site I bought a gallon plastic container of scrumpy, from some Geordies selling it out of the back of a Transit, for the princely sum of £1.50. I had a good day out, but sadly, after drinking most of it (the wife wasn't keen) I have very little recollection of Zeppelin, who of course were on last. That's not because it was 40 years ago, because of the scrumpy I was like that the next day, plus a very sore head and upset stomach (to put it politely).

We hung around the next day until my hangover had subsided a bit, and wandered around the now emptying campsite. As well as finding enough lost tent pegs to last me for years, I was able to find quite a few of the cider containers which had been wisely abandoned before they were empty. I poured all the left over cider into one container, and sold it to someone for £1! On the downside is not remembering much about a concert which is now legendary, on the plus side I got dead drunk for 50p!
