Rear Brake Return Spring Location
« on: March 15, 2021, 01:48:57 PM »
Hi,

i did look at some of the older post reference the rear brake return spring.

I'm sure mine is wrong as the spring does not have any tension. Please take a look at the pictures and tell me where i have gone wrong!

Thanks

The long tail of the spring fits around the down tube of the frame. Here is mine, the free end on mine has a bit of rubber tube on it to stop it damaging the frame. Hope this helps. I can try and take another pic from a different angle if it helps.

I'm trying desperately to get a pic for you, problem is the bike is at floor level and I don't have a ramp free to lift it up to get a pic. Has anyone else got their 400 in a raised position to take a photo please?

O'm thinking the green spring piece highlighted should go where the red line is?

Yes, I've just had a rummage and I can feel the other tale end going around a bit of tube. If it still doesn't work, I'll try harder tomorrow to take a better pic for you.

OddJob,

I dont have any tension on the spring, thats my issue i believe. I get the tension when the pedal is pressed but when it returns the pedal is floppy as with the spring. Just thinking.........Do i need the footrest installed for it all to work properly, ie the peday return is stopped by the foot rest......i think this could be a Doh moment?

Yes. The footrest bracket has an adjustable bolt on it that acts as a stop for the brake pedal.
