Head lamp mounts
« on: March 31, 2021, 07:38:14 AM »
I was just wondering if their is a recommended replacement for the standard head lamp ears while retaining the standard headlamp. Unfortunately my headlamp ears need considerable restoration work (new indicator stalks...the po sawed them off  :-\), which will delay my build and I’m eager not to lose momentum.

They don’t need to be pretty, just functional.

Of course, the hardest to find of any of the 550s. I've just sourced a NOS left hand one, wasn't easy to find and I've been looking for a long time for a decent one.

Any of the 550s will fit, it's the way the indicators mount that change.

Should be a few types on E-Bay. Try looking at some of the project builds, especially those doing a cafe racer type, they tend to use different mounts.

How badly are they sawn off? could the ears be cleaned up and some bolt on indicator stems be fitted in place, hiding the fact the originals are missing?

I intend to repair them with new tube and rechrome, but that will take time I’m afraid.

Theres tons of aftermarket options, avoid the cheaper chrome plates type from busters or m&p, better ones have anti vibration rubber mounts built in. The cheap ones keep coming loose and rattle around resulting in the need to keep adjusting the headlight if riding at night.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

Thanks Matt. That’s the problem...too many to chose from :-\. Was hoping somebody on the forum had a successful recommendation.

Have a look at Triggers flat tracker 750 that's for sale, he has some nice looking brackets on there, if you like them maybe he'll let you know where he got them from.
