Can I use this steering stem?
« on: April 17, 2021, 01:35:35 PM »
I acquired a 750K1 to restore with an odd front end. I picked up a steering stem at a scrap yard. It looked OK, but on cleaning I discovered it was somewhat oddly shaped at the bottom.

I don't imagine this is "normal", but is it useable? Or can it be repaired?

Only repair is a new stem welded in.
That where it has hit somthing hard, bent the forks and pushed the stem back.
Best use for that is holding the stem and beating the seller with the other end

Thanks Bryan.

I'm moving back to Europe – to S/SW France – as soon as the doors open again, which is why I've been examining the bits I have here. The bike, which is in a pretty sorry state:

will be wrapped up and shipped, to be given a new lease of life there.

You need to be carefull with what you buy as that is not a "standard" sohc 750 front end. It may be a dohc 750 not sure, check the diameter of the fork tubes

front wheel is off a Suzuki.

My guess is, the front end is off a twin shock early GSX750
CB750F2 - in pieces

I got it as a parts bike, but by then I had nearly all the parts I needed, so ....

I'll ask the PO about the forks and sidecar, but I doubt the latter; never seen a sidecar here in Zim.
