Cb 200 rings
« on: May 24, 2021, 08:24:16 AM »
I have acquired a cb200 ,compression was not good having stripped down both top rings are broken I am going to fit New rings no bore wear really , am a bit confused to ring gap as the manual spec states end ring gap 6thou, but many people say times x the bore (55.51) x 4 = 9 thou . Can someone advise me what gap I should go for .

Factory manual here:

6 thou" is the minimum. I think I did my CD175 to about 8 thou. TBH if it has been bored properly / not worn and you are using Genuine, new, Honda rings, the gap is usually bang on anyway.

Ash ,I’m fitting +25rings on standard bores and filing the gap ,..... as the manual states standard gap is 6 thou , having asked around some engineers  say times the bore x 4 which = 9 thou .so I’m a bit confused Thankyou for you’re reply Ash .

Not a fan of using over-size rings in standard bore but lets see what Trigger, Oddjob  & Bryan think as they are pro's on engines on here.

Many thanks Guys for your input, wasn’t keen on the expense of a rebore (negative equity come to mind)as there wasn’t  any wear in the bore, perhaps go back to standard, it’s no show pony and won’t be commuting, Thankyou again...

If you think there is no significant bore wear and you try a new ring,  the gap may be in tolerance ... which should be OK. 6 thou is the absolute minimum for a perfect bore and new ring.

Ash , I can see your point , “ But ,“ to try your a standard ring means they very expensive £70 genuine  ,for a just a try to engine out every time  , it was just a thought from the forum ,I have heard a few competition  lads have tried it. I’m from the West Country and are very frugal here 😎, Thankyou all again from your input

Its a sall bore and when you compress the ringextrait goes out of round, if it was a 3" Ford bore it would be a lot less noticable
