cb550 engine rebuild questions

(1/1)

tony:
thanks guys i need to replace cam chain and tensioner can i do this with the engine still in the frame

cheers tony

SteveD CB500K0:
I think you can as, unlike the 400, the tensioner blade doesn't go around the crank.  You'll have to remove the barrels and feed the new chain around the crank by attaching it to the end of the old chain.
While doing all this, make sure you keep rags stuffed in the holes as any bits lost into the cases WILL require you to remove engine and rip it apart.

JonnyB:
According Haynes you can. If you don't have one I could photocopy the relavant pages and send them to you.

clarkjh:
it can be done, but like steve said, plug the holes and \"Don't Drop It In The Case\".  I just did work on the tension guide and didn't break the cam chain, I did drop the chain in the bottom, took over halve hour to dig it out and meshed without slack in the bottom.

Yep no problem you can also change the chain but its a fiddly job but dont drop the chain or you will be taking the barrels of if it snags.

Best of luck:silly:
