Hello from Hampshire
« on: June 27, 2021, 07:55:18 PM »
Hi all,

As a teen a friend was lucky enough to have an old CB350 which we rode around the woods.   Since then I’ve been a fan of the old CB range, and recently on a whim picked up this CB550 super sport.

US import, runs, that’s all I know!  Nova etc present.  I paid £1500.

I’m no stranger to old Landrover’s so figured if I can manage one carb I can handle 4!

Hopefully this will be an easy project and I’ll have her registered and running sweet in time for the summer!

If anybody is near Southampton happy for any advice or riding buddy etc!

Glenn

Hi Glenn
Welcome to the Forum, I'm pleased you joined us. That bike is OK for £1500, it looks bright enough.

It gets delivered Tuesday so I’ll know more!

Chain guard?   Handle bar clamp (order one) what else?

I’m not looking  for perfection, but a safe reliable bike that makes me grin would be great!   And a bit of tinkering would be fun!

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome and the eagle eyed appraisal of missing parts I hadn't spotted yet :-)

The bike should turn up tomorrow, and I'll find out what I've bought but its actually the fettling and fixing I'm looking forward too!

Its only got 10k miles on clock so if thats not lying she should be a fluids/battery/filters/fuel check over and see if she'll fire up!

I'll post and record my journey!

Welcome to the forum and hopefully you'll have it running soon.

In many respects quite like a land rover,  simple and easily understood.  But way finer tolerances by some considerable margin.

If you're cleaning carbs from non use,  the need to be scrupulously meticulous especially in the idle circuits pays dividends,  else you just become an expert at mounting and extracting the carb bank as you chase your tail.

Bike looks good in the picture.

Welcome to the forum. That looks a good buy for £1500, hopefully the engine is ok. Before you attempt to start it take the valve caps off and squirt some oil in there and over the cam lobes and rockers, they will likely be bone dry if the bike has been in storage.

Make a list of the missing parts and get yourself along to the Kempton Park autojumble in July (you must pre-book a ticket) where there are a few Jap bike breakers with a lot of old parts in plastic trays to sift through. There are also people selling oil and you'll need that!

Thanks Dave!  Thats good advice!   I've got some oil on hand, the bike should turn up in a few hours!

I'll start a new topic on the "Projects" board to track it!
