Ordered a new set from David Silver and at about £1200 all in with fixings and heat shields not too unreasonable really.I plan to set up a dummy petrol tank and run it on two stroke oil mix now and again to keep the insides from rusting.Anyone ever tried this?

Yes, i  have run my 750 K1 on a weak 2 stroke mix for the past three years, they were new from CMS, so far no problems.

I have had my a set of 341's on the bike for about 8 years now and never run oil through them and they are fine.
I take them off once every couple of years to clean them properly.
But I did once have water come out when upended after the bike was laid up for a year.
Getting the bike nice and hot on a long run is the best way to prolong there life.

Having just bought one of the last set of pipes and fixings from Dave Silver for £1200 (I have yet to it them) the chappy on the other end of the 'phone said there were another 35 sets coming sometime.
If you call them and register your interest, they'll put you on a list and let you know when they arrive.

Cheers my dears.
