Wiring Harness
« on: August 20, 2021, 08:24:22 AM »
Just a thought on wiring harness regarding repair/replace. I have read different snippets regarding replacement harness’s for different models, problem being to get an exact copy of what was on the bike originally. When I restored the 550k3 I opened up the harness by removing all the tape laid out all the wires and examined cleaned and checked for hardening etc, repaired replaced wires and plugs appropriately then re taped and ended up with a descent harness that I knew was not hiding any skeletons. The thing is I would do the same with the 750 unless there is a good reproduction harness on the market. I know there are several suppliers out there, anybody had any experience with aftermarket harness’s for the 750 in particular?

Reusing an old harness can be problematic whilst occasionally may be necessary as new replacements cannot be bought. Over time water will creep up the copper in the PVC insulation and cause corrosion. The wires become brittle and weak. If you cut and strip an old cable you can see how far up the the insulation the corroded wires go.

I used the DS aftermarket on my K4 and it is fine. I would say the Japanese bullet connectors are not as robust if connected/ disconnected several times, as the OE but they are easily tweaked again to get a solid connection.

Two years on no electrical issues to report.

I have used 3 DS looms on my standard K2, as a base for the CR750 Rep loom and on a k6 - plus 500k2 and they have all been good quality for not a lot of cash (in my opinion)
Current Bikes:-
Honda CB750K2 (1975)
Honda CB500K2 (12/1972)
Honda CR750 Replica (1972)
Honda CB350K0 (1969)
Kawasaki ZZR1100D3 (1995)
Kawasaki ZZR250 (1990) Project (Going on eBay ASAP)
