Fork rebuild
« on: August 21, 2021, 08:59:06 PM »
Evening all,

Newbie here and first post in the CB550 section but please redirect me if this needs to be posted elsewhere.

I am currently rebuilding my forks and whilst the fork cases were ok (after some vapour blasting!), the main pipes were badly corroded where I suspect the original gaitors/boots had held water in.

I bought a new set of forks on ebay, which were advertised as 550 forks - as it was cheaper than trying to source pipes in good condition alone. When I stripped these down I noticed the bottom pipe/dampers were different from the originals I am replacing.

Do any members know if these may be from another model and should I be concerned if I use these on my CB550 and just swap in the new pipes?

The one on the left/lower could be 550 forks from the early ones, K0, K1 (1974/5) that were sold in the States, but we didn't get the 550 until the F1. Do you have all the internal bits?

Yeah I have all the internal bits for both so I am going to swap them as they are I think and use the ebay fork pipes with my shiny new fork cases.

I was just checking compatibility between the two - springs and pipe lengths all look the same - just this different configuration on the bottom.

Thanks

One on the right is the same as my 550F2 forks, I've got them apart right now.

What year is the F2 and do mind me asking what the volume of fork fluid is recommended for these? If its the same as my K2 I am just going to swap them.
