Is this a PO's Motad Mix up or what ?
« on: September 12, 2021, 09:34:56 PM »
My main photo storage PC packed up last week - on the external 1TB HD were last years strip down bike pics - that I retrieved yesterday.

Looking at various members photos of the neat 400 four original exhuast pipes got me wondering if Motad did it differently or if the PO when he rushed it's re-assembly get it all wrong.

Before I removed the system I numbered all the pipes at each end - is this the weird pipe arrangement that Motad did or has it been assembled wrongly?

Looks ok, quite a few of UK made/sold pipes had "adventurous" design to clear the oil filter housing,  and more importantly allow removal of filter without dismantling the pipes.

Think it's correct, but all Honda original for all SOHC fours allowed that access for service as original design,  along with some very aesthetically good systems.

A few aftermarket types had conflict on which you either opted to remove to service or wrangle the filter out behind the pipes, and then wipe any split oil from them to clean up afterwards.

Thanks for the pictures Allan & comments K2-K6 - that confirms they are correct for my Motad system.

I'm nowhere near fitting it yet as I need to sort out the cylinder head stuff first - valve grinding on number 4 exhaust valve is going well - must be original factory angle so no seat re-cutting required just another 10 minutes of making the lapping stick  catch fire.
I have found someone who can check if the head needs skimming as he has some sort of tool for the task.
Also found a firm in Rebel County (Clay Cross) who can skim it but 6 week wait & £50 plus VAT for a skim.
