« on: September 13, 2021, 11:09:31 AM »
Hi all just looking to buy some new screws for the points backplate on my '76 Four, can't seem to find any searching the net so if anyone has some idea of where I can source them I would be very appreciative as the old one are so chewed up I hade to use the 'hammer shock' technique, well it worked but not the ideal situation to be in eh?
Thanks in advance for any help provided, ride on pards!!! 8)

The manual shows item 296 (3) p/n 93500-0514-0A. Its a M5 x14 screw.

Screwfix do M5 x16 pack of 50 in SS for £2.99 just cut 2 mm off!

Good No Ted, if you fit allen keyed bolts you tend to either shear them off or most often you strip the thread clean out of the backplate, they can exert far too much pressure for such a small screw. Use crosshead screws, they tend to slip and round before you can strip the thread out.

I hold the small end of the Alen key so I'm more likely to puncture my old fingers than shear a thread whilst nipping it up - that said mine are plain screws - I take your point too tempting to overtighten.

I've done the same allen bolts, the screws I took out were a nightmare to remove, just a gentle nip between your fingers of the allen key screw is plenty.
