Internet Luddites.
« on: October 24, 2021, 08:05:05 PM »
This is a "tip" for all us trusting, old internet Luddites. I posted a request on the " Honda classic" facebook site for the elusive gearbox bearing for my 500. To my surprise I got half a dozen replies from people that had them. All had unusual names and posted very brief comment. On checking their profiles, some had only just joined the site that day and others had friends in every country in the world and some had no profile at all. So a rat was smelt, even by an old fart like myself. Then one of the site administrators went through the lot and labelled them all as scammers. So being use't to all the genuine replies on this forum does not carry over to other sites. So all you trusting oldie be very aware when using other means to search for parts. Your never to old to learn!!!!!!!!!!

Another high risk place can be Facebook links and of course Autotrader - scammers work best when hidden in plain sight on trusted platforms.

You seem to be confusing Facebook with a trusted platform…

If you Google Nurse Julie   it will probably be the wrong Nurse in the pictures . ;D ;D

Apologies for casting aspersions 😔😔😔
But yes, I agree with you totally. Unfortunately, the scammers on these sites lead others to distrust people like myself who try really hard with the only intention being to help someone out by keeping these old bikes on the road. That's social media for you I suppose though. It has its good points but also has a lot of bad points.

I Googled ‘ball cock’ when the toilet was over filling - that was an eye opener!!  :o  Just then the wife popped her head round the door to see what I was looking at.  :-[

Scam ads tend to always be too cheap - we’d all like a £8k sandcast or E type, just like we’d like a share of the Prince of Nigeria’s $25 million.
