Genuine or fake? Your thoughts?
« on: November 01, 2021, 01:56:32 PM »
Just bought a Keyser carb kit for my 500k2 to try to cure mid range hesitancy (following recent post by Erny solving similar issue). Bought at £112 a set from Wilson Racing via eBay - bought from UK company at top of price range to try to avoid 'fakes'.
When they arrived they were in Keyser branded clear plastic bags but no Keyster branded cardboard boxes (as per previous kits I have bought)
How have members received packaged Keyster kits?
If I contact the seller and ask if they are not genuine, he is unlikely to say so!
I might just ask for a refund.
Thanks in advance
Phil

Don't know Ken. Used all original brass ware plus Julie's seal kit. Had new floats, quality float valves. Triple checked float heights. Bench synched and on vac guages.
As Erny highlighted his emulsion tubes were corroded and sorted his hesitancy issue by using Keyster kit, thought it was worth a try (had good results using Keyster kits on 750's)

Not got them out yet (strip down scheduled for tomorrow) but thought it best to replace then everything has been changed with quality parts based on Erny's experience. (Also, my 750k2 is on Keyster and has always run a treat).

I presume the K2 is still using 627B carbs?

The US model does apparently

Going to give the Keyster a try based on my previous experience and Erny's feedback - main issue is if they are genuine

I bought Keyster kits from DS a few years ago and they came in Keyster cardboard boxes and the plastic bags.

That PDF has been composed by me. A few thoughts. Although my carbs have served over 138.000 kms, I have no indication of any wear so far. Each float valve has passed around 2000 liters of petrol. My 649A carbs are stock. No parts have been renewed other than the O-rings around the main jets and the bowl gaskets. Even the O-rings around the T-joints are still the originals Keihin installed in the 70s. For experimental reasons - curiosity - I have raised the jet needles one notch, from 3rd to 4th from top, just to be able to evaluate the setting mentioned in a booklet edited in 1977(!) by American Honda. I still have my doubts; that US booklet is the only source that suggests '4th' for the CB500 and it may well be an error derived from an error in the Shop Manual CB500-550 p.165, where Honda mistakenly typed CB500 over the left column, where it should have been CB550. If one day I have nothing better to do, I may return my needles to their original 3rd (middle position) again.
I didn't know needle jets could corrode. They're brass and what has been interpreted as rust, may well be dried out leftovers from petrol. Needle jets can be cleaned quite easily with grandpa's pipe cleaner. Note that the 'F' models had a differently tapered jet needle than the 'K' models had.

Thanks Gareth, I messaged the company via ebay earlier and they replied that they send them this way so they can send via envelope postage and said he can send pictures/numbers for the kit boxing - and I have requested that in my reply.
