Hello from another old newbie
« on: December 09, 2021, 10:23:39 AM »
UDATE call for help lol ... how do I reply to anyone that has taken the time to send me a note off the back of reading under intro please?

Hello fellow Honda lovers,
Thank you for letting me join.
My boring userid is my name, I live in the UK, now on the South coast.
I've ridden and owned bikes since my first bike (unrestricted Yamaha FS1E) in 1976.
My fair weather summer ride is a 1939 Ariel 4G (Square 4), but I've always wanted a CB750 since back in the day when I couldn't afford one  :o
I'm now the proud owner of an unrestored, very close to original, first road registered 01/01/1974 CB750 K4, imported from the USA in 2019. It has its original tank and side covers, but sadly painted white in the past. I'm looking to change that at some point, so I'm hoping you lot will be able to recommend who I should use. Also I'm not sure what the original colour would have been, so if anyone can suggest how I might establish that, I'd welcome your input please.

Thanks again for the join.
Kind regards
Pete

Welcome Pete,

I too had a 1976 FS1E when 16 and also couldn't afford a CB750 back in the day.

Hope you have loads of fun with your K4.

Cheers

Skoti

Welcome Pete - always wanted a Square 4 from the day I used to walk past one laid up in a garden every other Saturday on the way to watch Liverpool - I was 15 and one Saturday plucked up the courage to knock on the door and ask if the owner would sell it! He opened the door said no and slammed the door in my face!
Good. Luck with the build

Send me your email via the pm system and i will send you a chart of what colours were used in what years in the US.
Not even Honda have a record of what colour it left the production line so you pick one you like.
Welcome by the way

Hi Pete, welcome to the gang, very helpful bunch indeed with a wealth of experience and wisdom and a bit of wit and sarcasm thrown in it all adds to the fun. I also have an import, 750k3 it had god knows how many colour changes in its rough life, but I stripped the tank down through the layers and when I got down to the original decals which had also been painted over it was obvious mine was flake sunrise orange. Also found on inside of the one side panel that the bike had when I got it. But as Bryan says any period colour of your choice.

Welcome to the Forum Pete, I once briefly owned an Ariel Square Four - bought it from a long gone used bike retailer in Chesterfield "Sportorama" part of the old Brocklehurst Motors Group. Mine had a chair attached that I could not get on with so halfway home I took it back & traded it in for a Maico Letta 250 Scooter - the Ariel was around £50 at the time - I guess it would be worth many times that now.
