I actually tried pedaling my fissie when I was sixteen. You do these things when you're a teenager. It was possible but you peddled like crazy and did about 2mph that's if you didn't fall off first. We also tested the sixteener thing at college, we got sixteen people on one and actually got it to move. Madness, what great days.

I agree, a clued up plod could stop a moped at any time and ask you to pedal it and if you couldnt cos the mechanism was siezed up nick you and make you push it home

Never had a moped but did used to nick my mum's PC50 for bandit runs at the tender age of 14! Good job it was slow!
One day I'll have the time to restore it, not just talk and dream....

Always went back to customer fully legal and working unless  they signed the invoice to say they understood it was not a moped any more

I’ve still got and ride both a (Purple Popsical) Fizzy, and a (Mighty Green) SS50…. with a front disc (oooh!). Of the bikes I own, these two somehow bring the biggest smile to my face as they are so gutless, and yet so provocative wrt my earliest 16yo memories of freedom & biking.
Yep they can both still be pedalled, but non-owners don’t quite appreciate the pedals are locked to the rear wheel (when unstowed), ie there are no free-wheeling capabilities. I think I’ve managed the length of my short driveway at best…. 😂
How these ‘moped’ mechanisms skirted / flouted / made a mockery of the law’s intentions is a joke; borne out by the subsequent 30mph restrictions I guess.
Regardless … Happy days; apologies for the thread drift.
