Went to the Swettenham Arms meet at Swettenham, near Jodrell Bank last night. Some really nice bikes there but spotted a CJ360 from across the car park done in Parakeet Yellow. First glance I thought it was a 400-4 as the tank a similar design so I sauntered over to take a look.

I freely apologise now, I should have taken a pic, which I'll do if I ever see it again. It was a really nice restoration but done 20 years ago, exhaust was original and was completely immaculate, not an ounce of rust on it. I was never a fan of the CJ series, in fact it's my pet hate bike but this was really good. I'm not easily impressed but this did impress me.

Owner never been on this site but I told him what it was and what we do and maybe he'll pop on and post a pic. He has a few of them and also had a 1962 Ariel along with it being ridden by his Dad.

A really nice Velocette there, brand new engine, new cases, new crank, new everything, cost £6500 to build. Even had an eleccy start on it and all the electrics were modern. I'll take a pic of that as well next time.

Meet is every Thursday night if anyone is in the area, get there early as by 9.30 most have gone these days as the nights draw in.

You can always judge a good day out by the amount of mud you bring home on your bike 😂😂😂😂😂
Riding around the edge of The Wash today, as close as you can get without sinking. I've enlarged the last photo to show the Outer Trial Bank, a disaster of a project to store fresh water in a resovoir type construction in The Wash. I was on Millie the 550 Mongrel and Trig was on his 750K6. Probably not the most suitable bikes for the exercise but great fun. I got within 25 yards of home and my throttle cable snapped. 1 only have 1 cable, no return cable so luckily it was only a short push onto the drive.

Just wind the throttle stop in as far as you can and you can limp home at around 20mph or so, better than pushing.

I used a screwdriver under the carb opening arm when mine snapped, mind you I was a long way from home at the time so pushing was not an option.

I'm sure we would have sorted some type of Heath Robinson bodge to get me home. I was just so very lucky it got me so close to the house before it snapped. Graham reckons it's where I was racing him the last 7 miles, it snapped to teach me not to try turning the throttle further than it should go 🤣🤣🤣🤣I was in the lead all the way until the cable snapped. He managed to fly by me 25 yards from the finish line 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Blast to Foulups today, tyres kicked, check, coffee drunk, check, HUGE breakfast induced heart burn, check, bits collected and a scoot home the long way home via Cheddar Gorge for a coffee and to see how many sodding goats can leap out at you mid corner up through the gorge on the way home.

80 odd miles and the soul is fully recharged

After re-balancing the carbs on the 350 using just one vac gauge and a 4 way switchable manifold, I decided to give it a road test around the West Mainland (of Orkney) this morning.  Although it was good before, I can certainly notice the difference from the 4 gauge system.

This is overlooking Rousay from the top of the Hillside Road

.......and then just a short distance from home with the view towards the Brough of Birsay

Hi Julie,
Yes, it's a very special place - 17 years of pure enjoyment!  It must be about time you folk ventured up here some time soon - can't always promise good weather but can guarantee a warm welcome and lots of interesting stuff to see (as well as lots of tasty machinery)
Ian
