Selling frame but keeping engine
« on: April 05, 2022, 08:47:23 AM »
Hi,
Finally getting around to clearing some of the collected projects and parts from the sheds and have even sold for the first time on eBay - a rusty Harris 4-1 for a GS1000 that got more interest than I'd expected and inspired confidence that I could move a few (lot) more unwanted bits.

Next pile I'd like to shift is the left-overs from the CJ250/360 projects.
Had two 250's and used one as a donor bike to pinch bits off here and there.

What I wasn't sure about is that I'd now like to sell the frame and other parts and have the V5 for this, however I'd probably keep the engine that came with it for future spares etc.
If I do this, what does that mean for the engine 'status' as it would be shown on the V5 being sold with the frame - is that a problem for future use of the engine or is there anything different to do with paperwork to separate the engine from the frame registration.

Hope that makes some kind of sense..
Cheers,
Andy

Write "frame only" on receipt and new owner can change engine number when taxing. As long as you keep proof that you bought the engine legitimately there is no problem using it later(keep photocopy of V5)

Thanks Bryan,
That makes sense.

Cheers,
