Lots of posts missing
« on: April 12, 2022, 03:41:13 PM »
Just noticed that posts made both by myself and other members are missing from a few days ago.

I have a thread called What would you do, it's about a seat pan, few posts with comments and suggestions from Andy, Trigger and Ash as far as I remember and they are now all missing including my reply from last night.

Why's that happening Steve, it's like the forum has used a backup from a few days ago and lost loads of posts.

There's a post that I replied to this morning about 400/4 carb breather tubes that's gone. The thread itself has gone.

The only post showing on my thread about the seat pan is the first one that I made, where have all the others gone? Like the one saying that P&K Classics in Cannock do spike bars.

I got a notification about a PM from another member, went to view it and that's not there. Seems everything from midday yesterday to this morning has gone.

What's also odd is that Steve hasn't said anything yet on the subject.

I also had a PM notification that wasn't there. It appeared in my inbox about 2 hours later.

Well that went well.

Moved servers using a method that nobody is supposed to notice…

The new server had to be set up in parallel while you lot were still posting away. Then copy all the stuff posted in the meantime onto the new server.

Then wait for the DNS nameserver to catch up. This is the bit that translates the human name of the site (sohc.co.uk) into an IP address (lots of numbers, letters and dots). This directs you to the new server in place of the old one.

Unfortunately, the “cascade” of the new address around the world can take a while. Anything up to 24 hours (although I’ve never known it take more than a couple).

Internet 101 ends

Most people would simply warn their users and switch the site off during the transfer. But I’m too clever for that (NOT).

Normal service will be resumed shortly. Nothing will (should) be lost. If it is, let me know and I’ll try to track it down.

Oh, and if anyone is using a remote (linked) avatar you may have to log out and back in again to force the system to go fetch it.

Steve

Ash,
Saw your post briefly on small screen so not sure if even close but here's a couple of pics of the CJ kickstart - if not the same at least that's another bike discounted from the possibles list!

SteveD I think the Donations link is down, assume that will be OK in a while too as I’m overdue, in appreciation of so much good advice!

I was logged out of the site yesterday on my phone app and now unable to log back in even though I know the password I am using is correct. This is only affecting the phone app though, not the laptop.
I also recieved a notification of a message yesterday but its not there, not on the phone app or the laptop.

Dave,
That was from me - sent a PM to you with a bit of catch up and apologising as I didn't get back to you about meeting at Kempton Park.
Had Covid and a cold bug keeping me indoors for a while.
I'll PM a catch up in a few days if original one doesn't arrive.
Cheers,

Andy. That’s a really nicely finished 250T; can you post some some pictures of the whole bike? And how did you finish that clutch cover?
