I was looking for an MGB or Stag last year, to make good on a promise made to my wife when we married in 1979 to "buy her a sports car one day."

I worked on both the MGB and Stag during the 1970's as an Apprentice, before joining Jaguar Cars. Remembering the "good old days" weren't really so good where cars are concerned, I bought her a Mercedes SLK.

We've put around 4,000 miles on the car since and, having never really been over interested in owning a sports car, it really is very pleasant and quite impressive to drive. In addition, it has a 15.5 gallon fuel tank and achieves some 48 mpg as driven by us, so in today's troubled times with fuel shortages, will travel a very long way between fuel stops!

If you are thinking of a bit later car, have you considered a Porsche 944 (convertable/coupe) - galvanised body (although still rot due to age) - I had a Guards Red Turbo SE (250 BHP 2.5 litre Turbo'ed straight FOUR) - very rapid, reliable and handle fantastic (a Jeremy Clarkson favorite I believe). Engine was half a V8 928 so over engineered. Various engines, spares availability good and range of prices depending on model.
Current Bikes:-
Honda CB750K2 (1975)
Honda CB500K2 (12/1972)
Honda CR750 Replica (1972)
Honda CB350K0 (1969)
Kawasaki ZZR1100D3 (1995)
Kawasaki ZZR250 (1990) Project (Going on eBay ASAP)
