NGK xd05f spark plug caps
« on: May 22, 2022, 12:27:40 PM »
Does anyone have 2 of these in black going spare? They are the long 102 degree angled ones that fit cylinders 2 and 3. I replaced the vd05f ones on 1 and 4 because 1 had failed. I have looked extensively to no avail. Numerous suppliers list them but when you look further you find there is no stock, or that the company has bad reviews on ebay. One supplier is listing them at £106.83 each! They are used on quite a few bikes including the gold wing.

I always use a straight long cap on the inner cylinders. I'm looking at using the same 90 degree long cap that fits the outer cylinders when I redo the engine this time.

You got a pic of the one you want? I have some coils lying around, about 5 sets and they may just have the caps on your looking for.

Update. I may have found a supplier, a place called Opie Oils in Redruth. They are listing as in stock so I have chanced putting an order in. £15.45 for a pair delivered. I'll update if it works out or not. After looking for so long, you start to believe that no one has them, let's see.

I’ve been waiting for plugs and caps from Greenspark for 6 Months. Beware of NGK copies.

I bought my ones for my FJ1200 from B&C Express

https://www.bandcexpress.co.uk/buy/NGK-XD05F-NGK-Sparkplug-Cap/XD05F.251#eq1

On my CB750F2 & my CB550s I used these angled ones for #1 & #2 cylinders & the long straight ones for cylinders #2 & #3

Inside of the plug caps there's a 5k ohm resistive element that can go open circuit. I've had this situation on my Exup1000. So I replaced the faulty element with a length of brazing rod & they're good to go  ;)

Are these them?
No that's the vd05f. I got mine from there, they refunded my order for the xd05f after 6 months of being on order as they didn't know when they would get any more stock.

There are some serious supply and manufacturing problems at NGK. Next official import of XDO5F plug caps is June.

Oh those, the long 90 degree ones commonly used on the outside cylinders.

Found 2 black ones of those yesterday, they are genuine NGK as they are far too old for them to be copies.

I could test them for resistance if you like, in case your supplier lets you down.

A little tatty but I'm reasonably good at tidying things up so they may be ok.

Thanks oddjob, that’s very generous of you, but I’ll pass and leave them for a more needy cause. I have some good used items, but I’m tidying up the 500 to match the refurbished coils.

I bought a set for the 550 last year from Greenspark with no issues whatsoever. I understand it’s the post pandemic supply Vs demand and material availability problems. I suspect they are made in China, so maybe that’s an additional issue.

XD05F caps have arrived today, as others have stated they now seem to be available from other suppliers. They look genuine to me. Out of interest, label on the box says made in Japan.

With all the conversation about the rise of electric vehicles, what all of these great names of the past must be doing to keep themselves in some sort of business. With a huge, but gradual steady decline in demand what will they turn to. They can't all turn their hand to making PV cells instead or whatever.
