Rear Mudguard Fitting

Can anyone help with this please? 75 CB400F
This is a new mudguard I got with the bike (not fitted), as you can see there is a large offset to it when fitting the securing bolt.  I know there’s some rubbers/washer/hollow dowels to fit with the indicator bracket but not aware of anything else to rake up clearance.
Is it just a case of “tweaking” the sidewalls to suit or am I missing something?

Thanks Nurse Julie - it’s more the mounting between the mudguard & the frame I’m looking for - just need to work out if it’s the right mudguard or if I can “bend” it to suit - May have to put a spacer each side but don’t know if that’s “correct”!

I believe that a similar problem existed with replacement rear mudguards for the 750 a few years ago. I fitted one to mine (supplied with the bike) and found the threaded bolt holes to be around 1/2" out of line. After quite a lot of work, it did eventually fit and has been fine since (I needed to grind off the welded nuts, re-drill the holes in the correct place and fit bolts and locknuts).

Firstly do the two front holes that have the built in dead eyes where you fit the front plastic section look centred evenly on the new part?

Before you fit the rear bolts does the gap either side look pretty even in the frame?

Have you got all the parts that sandwich between the indicator brackets ?

I loosly bolted the rear section in place not fully tightening them up but there were slightly nipped up against the plastic front section.

I then fitted the rear bolts through the indicator bracket & the various rubber spacers & the steel spacers that fit through the rubber - there should be enough movement to centre everything before you tighten everything up. You could add some extra rubber washers to make up any small difference between left or right.

Do these pictures help at all?

When you fit both bolts it should pull the mudguard evenly if there is a slight difference in the curve of the mudguards,

I'd just grab the mudguard and spread it a little by hand. Done that a few times in the past.

Thank you for all the replies, Ted, those pictures help greatly - with the shaping of mine where it mounts to the rear bolts it’s a bit different but maybe with some suitable persuasion I can get it to look & fit right - luckily all the relevant fitting holes line up correctly!
