Left and right switchgear - how to wire?
« on: August 25, 2022, 09:10:20 PM »
Sorry about this, but the harness on my 500 donor bike is quite molested.....
I need someone to tell me where the wires from the lh and rh switchgears connects to:
Left:                                                      Right:

Light green - horn button                     2x Black - power in lightsw, startbutton, and killsw.
Blue - high beam?                                 Black/red - headlight?
White - low beam?                               Black/white - engine run coils +
Black - power in?                                  Yellow/red - solenoid +
Brown/blue - ?                                      Brown/blue - light?
Brown/red - ?

Question: which colours in the main harness should connect to the above wires.
How does the Hi Lo beam get its power when lightswitch is activated?
Does the taillamp get its power from the headlight or ignition switch?

The harness is moved to an Egli frame and reduced as a new type of ignition and charging system is already in place.
So I would be grateful if someone could layout the lighting system wiring.

Best wishes
Elsberg

Do you have 3 wires to the start button and do you have lights on/off switch.
Tell me that and what colours go to lights on/off if fitted and i might be able to help

Hi Bryanj

Only two wires for starter button, black and yellow/red.

And black/white wire goes to engine run.

Lightswitch above starterbutton:dot - P - H. In P position brown/blue wire goes live - in H position both brown/blue and black/red goes live.

Hi Lo in left switchgear: when power goes to brown/red Hi Lo beam is active.

How is Hi Lo getting the message from right switchgear?

Thanks

Ok
All black wires go to switched power in headlamp
Yellow red goes to solenoid via shell and loom
Other side of solenoid is grounded

Brown/ blue goes to brown/white to feed rear, front and clock lights
Brown/red from both switches connect

If you have the 3 fuse fusebox the light wires from r/h switch go via loom to fusebox and come back to headlamp shell via loom.

If you have the starter safety circuit/diode  its more complicated on the starter circuit

Bryanj , thanks for your guidance.

I did connect the two brown/blue wires - but no output from the Hi Lo blue and white wires until I gave the brown/red +12V.
The brown/red had to get its feed from the brown/blue wires to make me able to turn of the lights?
Some heat was felt in that connection - maybe normal with the combined wattage from headlight 55W, clock illumination and rear.
Maybe even a bad ground connection?

All very exciting!

The light switch should have 3 wires
Black      power in

Brown/blue     power to sidelights in P
Brown/red       power to dip switch in H

Brown/blue should still havr power in H

Really appreciate your advice Bryanj and philward regarding wiring - everything works now!
Now comes the tedious job of making it sani to look at:

Can anybody link to a supplier of compact fuseboxes for mini-spade fuses?

Best wishes
