Ignition Switch

I find my ignition switch accepts the key and turns and I can hear the contacts moving at the bottom, but its not making an electrical path. 

Most likely cause is that it's sat for a few years and the contacts have got damp and corroded away.

Looking at the switch the plastic housing for the contact at the bottom is held on by 3 plastic tags on the circumference of the lock, and I could possibly prise off the end.

If I do that, is the bottom 'contact' part available as spare ?, or is the whole lock fubar ?

These are notorious for rotting once the seals have degraded.

You are better of buying a replacement from David Silver (if you want a Honda part) or Wemoto (for pattern)

The last thing you need is the ignition switch failing when you are out riding (trust me...)

Thanks, I suspected as much  :(

By Wemoto I guess we're talking about M&P, Buster etc as that was who I was going to go with.

However Busters list the same part number (Product Code: IGS735725) for the CB650Z as they do for the CB650SCC, although the SCC also has the steering lock incorporated, is that right ?

Stripped the switch and found what was wrong, one of contacts was all tarnished and wasn't making a circuit. Cleaned it all up with some emery on a surface plate, slapped it all back together and its working fine  8)

Just got to put the headlight shell back on and poke all the wires in.

Anyway that saved a few squid to spend on the next item.

Yeah, the fixing was the easy bit, the getting to it, took somewhat longer  :(

Anyway, Headlight shell back in place as is most of the wiring but for some reason the front indicators don't flash and the rears just stay lit, could be the relay is stuck.

So with the ignition lit up I tried the starter and although the solenoid tripped, there was nothing else  :'(

So stripped out the starter motor and found the drive gear was stuck, attacked it with WD40, stripped the end cover and made sure the brushes were not seized, and freed off the shaft with a pair of moles  ;D

All back together and it nicely spins on the button  :)

If the seals I've ordered come tomorrow, then its forks off  :o

Otherwise, its carbs off as they are going to be well cruddy.
